Like any office, O2 produces and uses paper on a daily basis. Unlike many offices though, O2 has made an extensive effort to ensure that it reduces and reuses paper. Designing two recycling bins for paper – one for paper which can re-used for notes and one for paper than is ready to be recycled, the designs are simple yet creative. Within its first week the bins were nearly full with employees actively recycling their paper. The paper initiative is the first of what O2 hopes will expand into can recycling and plastic recycling. For the time being though the focus in on recycling paper due to the volume used on a daily basis. With recent statistics suggesting that each person in Dubai produces 1676 kg of waste per year, it is hoped that the new paper recycling program will help employees not only to recycle but to think about what they are throwing away.
