Al Ain, UAE
Twenty-two senior managers from Tawam Hospital, which is managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International, have graduated from a rigorous Health Care Advisory Board (HCAB) fellowship program. The two-year leadership course is considered to be one of the most extensive executive health care training programs in the world.
“We are delighted to be the first hospital in the UAE to have on board graduates from the (HCAB) fellowship program,” said Michael Heindel, CEO of Tawam. “We truly believe that the knowledge they gained will benefit both the hospital and the local community. All the graduates have worked extremely hard for the past two years, and the recent graduation is a testament to their dedication and commitment to the program.”
Developed by Johns Hopkins Medicine and Harvard Business School, and conducted by The Advisory Board Academies (The Advisory Board Company), the course focuses on a broad range of current leadership challenges, including hospital and health system operations, health care finance and financial management, health system strategy and strategic thinking, and human capital management.
“The HCAB program covered a lot of aspects from leadership development to business performance and certainly lived up to the expectations of the fellows,” said Dr. Sheikha Al Ameri, chief of Neima Clinic, Consultant Family Medicine. “There is no doubt it will further enhance our image as a hospital committed to excellence,” added Dr. Sheikha Al Ameri.
At the HCAB graduation ceremony that took place on Nov. 20, 2008, at AL Ain Zoo and Aquarium, Al Ain, the program alumni spoke about the staff benefits of such training programs as well as the need to improve the quality and efficiency of health care through stronger leadership.
“Creating the greatest health care organization in the Middle East requires a level of leadership and innovation that goes above and beyond what the community expects. The program is a step in this direction. By continually investing in people and education, Tawam and the community will reap the benefits of this two-year investment,” said another graduate, Tawam’s human resources manager, Aysha Al Darmaki.
“The program has benefitted me professionally and personally as it was customized in a way that was in line with the work we do at Tawam on a day-to-day basis. Compared to many other leadership programs I have attended in the past, HCAB was by far the most effective as it specifically addressed our needs at Tawam,” said Tawam’s HR Manager, Aysha Al Darmaki
Tawam Hospital is managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine and owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA). SEHA is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
