Ducab, the leading manufacturer of high quality power cables in the Middle East, was awarded the Emirates Quality Mark Award at a ceremony held at the Majilis Al Salam – Madinat Al Jumeirah on July 16th. As the first manufacturing company to be awarded the Emirates Quality Mark Award (EQM), Ducab celebrated it’s achievement by hosting an award ceremony in collaboration with the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA).
Commenting on the EQM award, Ducab’s Chairman, Ahmad bin Hassan Al Shaikh, said: “It is an honour to receive this award and to be notified that Ducab is the first manufacturing company to be awarded the EQM. It is a reminder of how far we have come as a manufacturing company as well as a benchmark from which we will continue to monitor our operations.”
The EQM award was the result of full assessment by ESMA’s conformity assessment board. Over a period of 28 days, ESMA witnessed over 107 tests and reviewed several type test reports and certificates. In addition, Ducab’s quality management systems at the Dubai and Abu Dhabi factory were also audited and products were tested and witnessed by ESMA auditors.
“For Ducab, this award highlights our commitment to quality and safety. As a lack of national regulations and product quality standards in the UAE has recently encouraged other players within the manufacturing industry to cut costs and lower standards, we are honoured to accept this award. We fully support the initiative of ESMA to regulate the market with its certification schemes and believe that it will play a fundamental role in encouraging companies to be more accountable and transparent,” said Mr. Cheetam.
“The standardization and metrology practices that we have implemented are essential not only for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) but also to ensure that our operations adhere to international standards”, he added.
Foreseeing the benefits of standardization and the long-term gains it can accrue for the company’s stakeholders will no doubt play a key role for Ducab as they prepare to expand their manufacturing markets overseas and position themselves as a regional manufacturer producing the highest quality power cables.
The award ceremony was attended by H.E Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy, Mr. Waleed Al Mansouri-ESMA Director General, Ducab Chairman Ahmad bin Hassan Al Shaikh and Senior Management, Ducab sales and technical team, distributors and contractors. A crystal trophy was then awarded by the Minister of Economy, H.E Sultan Al Mansouri to Ducab’s Chairman.
